Under Control - The Strokes

Do you know how hard it was for me to pick a single song by The Stroke Bros? Nearly impossible. The Strokes, man. They were the only new band making real rock n’ roll when they came out. That’s what’s so exciting about music! And all art, actually! As soon as you think everyone’s scraped the bottom of the barrel, some wealthy white boys come along and blow your fucking mind (Yikes! Back off! I’m kiddddddinnngggg.) Is This It? CHANGED ME. Room on Fire gave my soul boners, too. It wasn’t the same kind of soul boner, but it was definitely emotionally attractive to me.

Soma, Hard to Explain, Between Love and Hate, You Only Live Once, Someday… How am I supposed to pick?

that’s what i’ve been saying. it’s not even how good the music is. (it’s fucking good) it’s the fact that when they came out, music was boy bands, linkin park, limp bizkit, shakira, britney spears, and so much other terrible stuff. the strokes changed everything. rock and roll became relevant and allowed for other good bands like the white stripes, the killers, yeah yeah yeah’s, etc. the horrible 90’s clothing styles ended with them, too because everyone started dressing like them. (which kinda sucks now that i’m thinking about it, they were like the first “hipsters” but whatevs) anyway, all i’m saying is the strokes did way more for us than a lot of people think.
